COASTAL WALKS IN DORSET – STEP BY STEP NAVIGATION

WALK 1
Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Bat’s Head.

First up is Lulworth Cove, this picturesque spot boasts breathtaking scenery and blue seas. The village of West Lulworth is home to an abundance of chocolate box cottages, a welcoming pub and a slower pace of life.
Once you have explored Lulworth Cove this walking route takes you up a steep hillside and rewards you with awe-inspiring views of the Jurassic Coast. The coastline path leads you down towards Man O’War Beach, made up of sand and fine pebbles, the glistening water from above looks almost tropical on a hot sunny day. The next point of interest on this walk is the famous Durdle Door, one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks. This beauty spot attracts a high number of visitors every year, and it’s not hard to see why.
As you continue to follow this walking route the path becomes much quieter, at this point you can really enjoy your surroundings and begin to absorb the peaceful atmosphere that makes Jurassic Coast so special.
The next point of interest on this walk is Bat’s Head, a chalk headland which is also home to Bat’s Cave, a small cave at the base of the headland.
This circular route brings you away from the coastline and back through the Dorset countryside as you make your way back to the starting point. A benefit to this route is the variation of terrain throughout the walk, there is always something new to see. You will pass the Durdle Door Holiday Park and Durdle Door Nature Reserve before following the route back to your starting point.

WALK 2
Dancing Ledge and views of Chapmans Pool.

Escape the crowds and explore a different part of the coastline, home to the Dancing Ledge. This section of the Jurassic Coast feels a little more rugged, with jagged cliff edges and steep drops into the waves crashing below. You’ll be rewarded with unspoilt sea views, and the sound of bird song.
Shortly after you set out on this route you are rewarded with spectacular coastal views as you make your way down the hillside towards Dancing Ledge. This is a great spot on the coastline and sets the scene perfectly for the rest of the walk, with panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast at every turn.
This is a quiet route which makes it all the more enjoyable. This route passes many popular locations for coasteering, the jaggered cliffs are the perfect playground for the adventurous.
This Jurassic Coast walk takes you along the coastline with a variety of different trails, there a several steep sections of this walk, made up of steep stairs in the cliffside. This makes the walk a little challenging at times, but you are rewarded with fantastic views and a real sense of achievement on completion.
Chapmans Pool can be seen shortly after you pass the half way mark, a beautiful cove framed by rolling hills above the cliffs.
This route takes you back through the village of Worth Matravers, as you make your way back to the start point. This picturesque village is home to a collection of limestone cottages, a real escape from the city. The route then follows the road back to the starting point in the village of Langton Matravers.

WALK 3
Swanage, Durlston Country Park and Dancing Ledge.

Starting in the coastal town of Swanage, enjoy the sandy coastline before embarking on this highly recommended hike. With a variety of different pathways this route will lead you through the countryside and out onto the quiet coastline path with spectacular coastal views. This walk takes you through Durlston Country Park, 320 acres of very beautiful Dorset countryside, home to a diverse variety of wildlife.
Following the path along the coast you will reach Dancing Ledge, a welcome break, and the perfect stop to admire the view. The Dancing Ledge also marks the spot on this route where you will begin to turn inland and follow the path towards the village of Langton Matravers.
Many of the houses situated in Langton Matravers are built from the local stone and the quaint village is a great example of a countryside village. After you have explored Langton Matravers, this route will lead you back towards Swanage and the starting point for this walk.
